Class Policies

PARENTS PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING STUDIO POLICIES TO ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD WILL HAVE A SUCCESSFUL YEAR OF TRAINING AT DANCENSATION.  IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU UNDERSTAND OUR STUDIO RULES & CONDITIONS BEFORE ENROLLING FOR THE UPCOMING PERFORMANCE YEAR.   AFTER READING BOTH SIDES OF THIS PAGE, PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

MONTHLY TUITION PAYMENT POLICY
Our performance year consists of approximately 34 weeks of classes payable over a 10 month plan for your convenience.  These monthly tuition payments are due on the first lesson of each month.  Remember that the monthly payment is the same whether there are 2, 3, 4 or 5 lessons in the month.  Payments made after the first week of the month, (after the 7th) will be charged a $20.00 late fee.  If your child is absent to class on the first week of the month when tuition is due, please do not wait until the second week of the month to pay or you will be charged the late fee.  You may drop your payment in the mail slot anytime during the first week of the month.  Students who fall more than one month behind in tuition payments will not be allowed to continue with classes.  Returned checks will be charged a $35.00 bank fee.

REGISTRATION FEES
Students must pay an annual fee of $35.00 each year due at Fall Registration.  These fees are used to purchase new music & equipment needed for the upcoming performance year as well as to fund numerous office & staffing expenses.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Our performance year lasts from September to June.  Please encourage your student to follow through with the commitment you are making today & do not quit mid-year.  This leaves us with an opening that cannot be filled since routines have been started & costumes ordered, etc.  If your student has a problem with the class, please let us know.  We may be able to suggest another class that may be more enjoyable.  Students who complete the entire year get to experience a very special day at Grand Recital & are recognized at our annual trophy ceremony.  We offer many fun activities, workshops & performing opportunities throughout the year & want every new student to experience all that an entire year at Dancensation has to offer before deciding to move on.

We hope you understand that regular weekly attendance is crucial to learning.  We do not offer makeup lessons for any classes missed, due to availability of studio space. Soloists may feel free to trade timeslots with another solo student to avoid an absence.  Students who are absent to class on the week of a show may not be allowed to perform in the upcoming performance since changes may be made in class which the absent student would not know at the show.  This is the teacher’s decision.

TROPHY POLICY
Those students who successfully complete a performance year (September to June) will receive a trophy at June’s Grand Recital for this special achievement.  We encourage students to come to class regularly as this is essential in learning routines for shows.  If a teacher believes a child has missed an excessive amount of classes, a trophy may not be ordered for your child.  Please make your child’s performing arts class a priority.

DRESS CODE
All students must wear leotards & tights to class - any color, any style are acceptable.  Competition level students must wear Black leotards (see Competition requirement sheet). Chiffon Ballet skirts may also be worn by Ballet Company.  Tap & jazz students may wear dance pants or shorts over their leotards & tights.  No baggy shirts are acceptable.  Teachers must be able to see body lines.  Acrobatic students go barefoot when tumbling & must wear footless or convertible tights with their leotards.   Dance shoes needed are as follows:  All Ballet students need pink ballet shoes.  Tiny tappers ages 6 & under in 45 minute tap / ballet combo class need shiny patent leather tap shoes with buckle - NO SHOESTRINGS. Tap students ages 7 & older in 1 hour tap / jazz combo class need slip on Black Gore tap shoes.  Jazz students need Tan gore boots. Hip-Hop students need black dance sneakers.  All required dancewear & shoes are available in our dance supply store, The Dancer’s Corner.  Hair must be pulled back away from face & secured with a hair elastic or ponytail holder.  Dress code warning slips will be sent home for students who are not properly attired for dance or acrobatic class.  Students who come to class without proper dancewear, shoes or without hair pulled away from face may not be allowed to dance, but may sit & observe class.

COSTUMES
Costumes for June’s Grand Recital are selected by the studio director for each class.  Students will need to purchase one costume for each routine in which they will be performing.  Students are measured at the studio & all recital costume payments are due by February 7th.   Please plan for this in advance.  Costumes will not be ordered for students who do not pay by February 7th.  Approximate cost is $60 per costume.  Costumes for competition level students are more expensive & will be ordered earlier than others (see Competition Level Requirement Sheet). For our Holiday recital, students will be assigned dancewear to buy & we will sometimes add accessories such as sequin & rhinestones to make costumes.  These dancewear items are available in the Dancer’s Corner in November & usually can be worn to class in January after being used as Holiday costumes.  Approximate cost for holiday dancewear is $50.00 & a $25.00 holiday costume deposit will be due by OCTOBER 7th ($75.00 deposit for competition level students).

PERFORMANCES & COMPETITIONS
We will have several performances throughout the year in which your child may be invited to perform.  We realize that students may have other activities, however we do expect a level of commitment to Dancensation.  One student missing from a group performance effects the formations & counts of a routine & is not fair to the rest of the group.  Please make these shows a priority to your child.  Every time your child performs in front of an audience they are building confidence & that is what our studio is all about.  Dancensation participates in 2 regional competitions each year as well as nationals out of town.  Students are invited to compete by their teacher only if they are ready & we use specific criteria to determine this.  See Competition requirement sheet for more info.  Please remember that all performances & competitions are based on having fun & enjoying accomplishments.   Any student or parent who becomes too competitive, disrupts class or creates problems between our performers, parents or staff will be asked to leave Dancensation.

HOLIDAY MELODIES, HOLIDAY FESTIVAL REVUE & GRAND RECITAL
These are our  biggest recitals each year (see important dates page).  Tickets will be sold in December for Holiday Melodies (piano & voice recital) & Holiday Festival Revue(dance recital) & part of the proceeds will be donated to charity.    For June’s Grand Recital, students are required to pay a Recital Fee instead of purchasing tickets.  Our Recital Fee is $75.00 per student & is due by May 7th.  This cost covers all of the production expenses for putting on a quality Grand Recital including theater rental, sound & light technicians, printing of programs, trophies, set design, etc.   Please plan ahead when scheduling vacations & if possible, wait until after Grand Recital as to not miss the classes & smaller performances which lead to our biggest show of the year.

PRACTICE TIME
Parents must encourage students to practice at home regularly.  This will enable your student to receive new material more often.  Students who do not practice at home will not progress & will spend too much class time reviewing last week’s material.  They will eventually fall behind & will not be ready for performances or competitions.  We are happy to make a cd of your child’s performance music if you bring us a blank cd with your child’s name written on it.  We expect them to listen to it at home and practice on a regular basis as repetition is the key to learning a routine.  Students who practice at home are more confident on stage & will be better performers.

DISCIPLINE
Classroom discipline for disruptive or inappropriate behavior is handled differently by each teacher.  Each staff member has different expectations in their classroom.  Please ask your child’s teacher if you have any questions about their individual discipline policy.

THANK YOU FOR CAREFULLY READING THE ABOVE POLICIES.
